February is Black History Month (and we’re celebrating!), and also Indigenous Storytelling Month (and we have stories to share!).
We thank you for joining us in person and online as we pray:
Creator God, I come to you with a humble heart.
So grateful for Your creation, this place I am in.
The land is full of Your glory.
Sunlight sparkles on fresh sparkling snow.
Birds fly high, trees dance in the wind.
Even the cold of winter deepens my gratitude
for the life across Turtle Island.
O Creator, perfect Host, Your care and compassion are echoed in the generous hospitality
of the original peoples – Indigenous peoples.
But the reciprocal relationships of host and guest have been shattered, and the pain continues.
For the sins of my own heart I seek forgiveness.
Cleanse me of the thoughts and emotions that keep relationships from healing.
Wash away the toxic entitlement, prejudiced assumptions, defensive disinterest.
O Creator, faithful Guide, show me the path.
Shape my words and deeds, my reactions and thoughts.
Open my heart to the wonder, the beauty, and the gifts
of all people I live, learn and grow with, including all those from cultures so different from my own.
Amen.
