“Good News Story October 2024 – Holy Family School Division

Nov 14, 2024 | Good News, Holy Family Catholic School Division

Our Holy Family RCSSD mission statement, Rooted in Christ, Serving in Love, reflects both our guiding principles and this year’s divisional theme. It sets the tone for all the work we do in our schools, from faith-based initiatives to community engagement. This theme also unites us as a Catholic community, where we strive to live out Christ’s teachings in service and love.

A Tree Grows in Our Division

In our Division Board Room, we’ve created a beautiful visual representation of this mission with a tree. The branches and leaves reflect how our acts of service grow throughout the year, supported by the deep roots of Christ’s love. This tree reminds us to stay grounded in our faith as we serve our students and communities with love. On our opening Faith Day, all Holy Family Staff present wrote how they would commit to serve in love, while remaining rooted in Christ. These statements penned by Holy Family Division staff appear on the leaves, added monthly to this tree, and they are included in our prayer intentions throughout the year, at meetings.

Faith in Our Schools: Rooted in Christ and Growing Together

This year, our schools are placing a special focus on growing in faith, especially in our primary grades. Following last year’s exploratory phase of Kindergarten: Growing in Faith, Growing in Christ program, we are now implementing outcome-based reporting that reflects students’ progress in faith development this year.

We are thrilled to be organizing student faith retreats throughout the year, school-led or with partners like NET Ministries, Face to Face Ministries, and the Archdiocese of Regina. These retreats provide meaningful opportunities for our students to deepen their relationship with Christ and understand how they can serve in love in their own lives.

Holy Family prides itself on being deeply community-minded. This fall, our schools plan to have events such as a Grandparents’ Tea, Celebration of Light, community coffee gatherings, fire prevention week, and school performances for charitable causes such as United Way. These events help connect our students, staff, and communities, reinforcing the message that our faith is not only lived out within the walls of our schools but extends into the broader community as well.

Looking Forward

It has been a significant year for our division, marked by the arrival of our new director, Ken Sampson, and the implementation of Edsby, our new digital communication platform. Edsby has enhanced our ability to connect with families and students, making communication more efficient and allowing us to better serve our communities.

We are also excited to continue growing in our mission, with plans already in the works for our 2nd Annual Mental Health Matters Day for grades 6-9 students, where all schools will come together to focus on mental wellness within a faith-based framework. Our efforts to support students’ holistic development, rooted in Christ, demonstrate our commitment to serving the needs of the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

A Year of Faith and Service

We were blessed to be able to host Steve Angrisano, who led our opening Faith Day in August at St. John the Baptist Church in Estevan, with his beautiful music and inspirational messages, reminding us to keep our eyes fixed on Christ as we serve in love. With a strong sense of community, and a renewed commitment to our faith, our division is well-positioned to make a lasting impact on our students, staff, and communities throughout the upcoming school year.
