Regina Catholic Schools and City of Regina Reach Holy Rosary Park Deal
The Regina Catholic School Division’s Board of Trustees and the City of Regina are pleased to announce they’ve reached a deal for the green space next to the former Holy Rosary Community School. This deal follows the closure of the school and the Catholic Education Centre in June 2024. The agreement will allow the City of Regina to purchase the land for $1.00 plus closing costs. The City acknowledges the vital role of green spaces in the community and is committed to preserving the newly acquired land, Holy Rosary Park, as a dedicated park space for the neighbourhood.
“This partnership ensures that Holy Rosary Park will remain a welcoming space where residents can come together and enjoy the outdoors,” said Regina Mayor Sandra Masters. “We are pleased to work alongside Regina Catholic Schools to maintain a place that holds so much meaning for the Cathedral community.”
“The Holy Rosary community made it clear they hoped for the preservation of the green space adjacent to the school,” says Regina Catholic Schools Board Chair Shauna Weninger. “We are pleased to have reached this agreement with the City of Regina in support of that vision. We are grateful to all our neighbours in the Cathedral Village area who supported us for 100 years.”
It was during the 2022-2023 school year that Regina Catholic Schools discovered a critical structural deficiency in the school building, which opened in 1914. Consultation with structural engineers ended with the news the building had reached the end of its life. Temporary safety measures were put in place to allow for the school community transition. As per a sales agreement with the Archdiocese of Regina, the school and division office facility parcel will be demolished.
