Two Provincial GOLD at Ecole St Mary High School !!

In a historic achievement on November 18, 2023, both École St. Mary High School boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams secured the 5A Provincial Championship, marking the first time in the school’s history. The Marauder girls clinched the title on home court by defeating the Swift Current Ardens in two sets, showcasing resilience and experience gained over several years. Led by a core of seven Grade 12 players, the team overcame early adversities, drawing on their veteran leadership to secure the victory. This win is only the second time the girls have won the provincial gold medals, with the École St. Mary High School girls’ team winning in 2017. Girls Head Coach Shaun Hunko emphasized the importance of building on past experiences, ultimately culminating in this year’s provincial victory. For the boys’ team, their journey to the title was intense, facing the two-time defending champions, Swift Current Colts. After a thrilling three-set match, the Marauders emerged victorious in a 16-14 final set, securing their first provincial championship. Boys Head Coach Rene Quintal praised the team’s defence. The boys’ victory added to the school’s legacy, marking the 12th Provincial championship. For graduating players like Mannix Mourot, Lisette Mourot and Carson McGregor, the emotional significance of concluding their high school volleyball careers on a high note, creating memories that will be cherished forever.
